Adrian Beltre signs with Texas, Garza rumors

The Texas Rangers have signed two time AL Gold Glove Award winner Adrian Beltre to a 6-year, $96 million contract. The contract has a clause that allows the Rangers to void the 6th year of the contract if he does not have a certain number of plate appearances in the 4th and/or 5th year of the contract. He will be playing third base, pushing Michael Young into the role of DH/utility infielder. Beltre provides the much needed right handed power hitting role that the Rangers have been lacking while having Josh Hamilton fill that role from the left side of the plate.
There has been a rumor floating around that the Tampa Bay Rays were close to a deal with the Cubs to trade Matt Garza. Both a source with the Cubs and Buster Olney of ESPN report that a deal is not close as Olney says that the Rays are more likely to trade Garza during the season.
