A's Agree to Deal with Balfour.

According to Jon Morosi of FoxSports.com, the Atheltics and Grant Balfour are close to a multi-year deal that would include at least two guaranteed years. Balfour posted a 2.28 ERA with a 1.08 WHIP over 55 1/3 innings for the Rays last season.

According to Buster Olney of ESPN, the deal is worth $8.1 million over 2 years pending a physical. The deal includes a team option for 2013 and they have agreed not to offer Balfour arbitration, meaning whoever signs him after this deal is over will not have to give up a draft pick.

Even though Balfour is a Type-A free agent, the Athetics will not lose their first round pick because it is protected. The Rays will get the A's second round pick and the supplemental pick between the first and second rounds.
