Yankees agree to terms with Soriano

According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, the Yankees have agreed to terms with Rafael Soriano pending a physical. The deal is said to be worth $35 million over 3 years. The Yankees will lose their first round pick because Soriano was offered arbitration and declined and is a Type-A free agent. They Rays will receive that pick, as well as a supplemental pick between the first and second rounds. The deal provides an opt out option for Soriano after both the first and second years.

Soriano was the top free agent pitcher still on the market. Last year he posted a 1.73 ERA with a .80 WHIP while saving 45 games for the Rays over 62 1/3 innings. Soriano will be serving as the set up man to Mariano Rivera for the next two years as Rivera signed a 2 year deal recently.
