Astros extend Rodriguez

According to Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes, The Astros have avoided arbitration with Wandy Rodriguez, agreeing to a three year, $34 million contract with the left-handed starter. Astros senior director of social media Alyson Footer says that the contract also includes a vesting option for 2014 that would raise the total value of the deal to $44.5 million. The deal is pending a physical. Rodriguez posted a 3.60 ERA with a 1.29 WHIP over 195 innings last season with the Astros. The deal covers his final arbitration year and buys outs two years of free agency. The average $11.33 million yearly salary is more than the $10.25 million Rodriguez was seeking in arbitration.
